Once again this year the much appreciated artist from Trentino will produce a piece to reward the winner of the Tour de Pologne — UCI World Tour, to be held from July 29 th to August 4 th. The basic idea I followed while making the piece was to continue to express the classic values that can be found on the roads of the Tour de Pologne, which rises out of the base representing Poland, and surges up towards the sky, towards new horizons and to infinity, sustained by the competitive spirit of the riders and the passion of the fans who come out for this great event. For the Tour de Pologne the artist has produced modern pieces with hand-made ceramic bases and bodies shaped from woodn , a high-tech material made in PVC and bamboo. It is an innovative, super high quality material that joins strength and flexibility, resistance and versatility, beauty and ecology. In fact, his works can be admired in Italy, too, until August 29 th , at the exhibit at the Magazzini del Sale in Venice , where among other things you can see new works in which sculptures are displayed next to several paintings.

The metre downhill finish in Katowice in the Tour de Pologne is one of the fastest and most unusual finales on the WorldTour calendar, and it was Sacha Modolo UAE Team Emirates who emerged from a hotly-disputed bunch sprint to take victory on stage 2 on Sunday. A regular part of the Tour de Pologne route, Katowice's broad, fast, runway-like downhill finishing straight, has only been won once by a non-sprinter in the last eight editions, when Taylor Phinney triumphed back in But on this occasion, as Katusha-Alpecin and Team Sky reeled in late attacker Petr Vakoc Quick-Step Floors on the final corner, there was little possibility of anything but an extremely high speed charge for the line deciding the stage. Modolo launched what he later called a classic but late sprint, in which the added downhill speed was offset a little by the stiff headwind, pulling hard out of a little knot of riders on the right hand side of the peloton with some metres to go. As a wave of eight or nine sprinters, divided by relatively little thanks to the speed of the descent, approached the finish line spread across the road, Peter Sagan Bora-Hansgrohe seemed too far back and was blocked in. Modolo faced late threats from Danny van Poppel Sky , third on stage one, on his left, with the Dutchman's sibling and fellow sprinter Boy van Poppel Trek-Segafredo closing fast on Modolo's right. A well-timed lunge for the line gave the year-old Modolo the victor, while Danny van Poppel took second and had the consolation prize of taking over in the leader's jersey from Sagan.

Peter Sagan Bora-Hansgrohe took a powerful win in a fast and furious opening stage of the Tour of Pologne, on his first competitive outing since his exclusion from the Tour de France. Sagan's bunch sprint victory, his eight win of the season, came at the end of a short opening stage, starting off a lumpy initial kilometres but then clearly coming down to a four—kilometre city centre circuit in Krakow that favoured the fastmen. Sagan has said repeatedly during the build-up to the Tour de Pologne that the events of the Tour de France are forgotten and he is now moving forward. But for those out there with a lingering feeling that the Slovak had a point to prove following his disqualification, the world champion demonstrated that he knows how to bounce back in style. Sagan seemed more than happy with his win, too, which was greeted with massive cheers and chants of his name from the sizeable Saturday afternoon crowd in Krakow.
2017 Tour de Pologne
The Tour de Pologne was a road cycling stage race that took place between 29 July and 4 August in Poland. Along with a Polish national team, three other squads were given wildcard places into the race, and as such, formed the event's team peloton. The opening stage of the Tour de Pologne was a ride around Krakow, effectively designed for the sprinters. The second stage was another opportunity for the sprinters. After the opening two sprint stages, the next stage took the riders into the Silesian Beskids with a route that favoured the climbers. After a reasonably flat first half, the first category Salmopol was climbed, before the riders entered a circuit containing the Zameczek climb, which was climbed twice. Once the riders had descended, they returned over the Salmopol, going in the opposite way from that climbed previously, with the summit coming
Sagan was last seen in action in the first week of the Tour de France but was controversially disqualified for dangerous riding in the sprint in Vittel. Sagan's last visit to the Tour de Pologne was a much happier affair. It was in his second year as a professional in , with overall victory giving the Slovak his first ever WorldTour stage race success. Sagan picked up two stage victories - including one to the southern locality of Zakopane - revisited this year - as well as the points jersey. Like Sagan, the Tour de Pologne - a venerable stage race which started way back in by the newspaper Pzeglad Sportowy and the Warsaw Cycling Society, and organised annually since - has continued to flourish. The race has a longstanding summer slot on the UCI WorldTour and often attracts riders looking to kick-start the second part of the season and build-up for the Vuelta a Espana. Back in , new professional Moreno Moser Astana won the race outright and he will return this year.
